Mental Health Resources

When I first experienced an anxiety attack, I wanted to learn everything I could about it and what could be causing it so I could feel better and more like myself again. This was back in 2009, and the information I received was in printouts from my behavioral therapist.

We’ve come a long way, and now there are many resources for people experiencing mental health challenges. I compiled a list of some of the top resources I’ve found to help anyone else seeking additional resources and support. *Descriptions are courtesy of the agency’s websites, list current as of 2/20/24.

I’m also including a list of books that I found helpful for improving my mental health.

The National Institute Of Mental Health (NIMH)

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

U.S. Department Of Veterans Affairs Mental Health

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Mental Health has various mental health resources, information, treatment options, and more — all accessible to Veterans, Veterans’ supporters, and the general public. Explore their website to learn more about a specific mental health topic or find information tailored to your needs.

NAMI, The National Alliance On Mental Illness

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. They are dedicated to improving the lives of the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI works to educate, support, advocate, listen, and lead to improving the lives of people with mental illness and their loved ones.

Anchor International

Anchor International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating safe groups for mental wellness. We equip people to lead Christ-centered support groups in their churches and communities because we believe all people can find hope and healing in the midst of mental and emotional health struggles.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the United States. We’re committed to improving crisis services and suicide prevention by empowering individuals, advancing professional best practices, and building awareness.
