How To Hear God’s Voice More Clearly

Sometimes, we may find ourselves having to decide on something but are unsure what to do. We ask God for direction, but we feel he has gone silent. This can be frustrating and make us feel alone in our decisions, I’ve been there and I understand.

I’ve found some things that help me hear God’s voice more clearly and discern what he is telling me to do. I am sharing those here today; I hope this helps.

Read The Bible

One of the best ways to hear from God is to read your Bible. God speaks to and guides us through his word. Reading the Bible shows us God’s character and how he’s worked in the lives of other believers before us.

The Bible shows us how God has directed others in the past, and it helps us to recognize if what we are considering would be something God would approve of or direct someone to do. Stories in the Bible help build our faith and remind us that if God came through for different people in the Bible, he would come through and be there for us, too.

Pray

Whatever situation you may be facing and need help getting through, ask God for help through prayer; he is willing and able to help. After you pray, pause, listen, and discern his voice. Some people experience his voice and response when being still and quiet, but I sometimes receive the best revelation and answers when I walk, exercise, or shower.

Tune Out Other Voices

The amount of information we have access to can be overwhelming. It can paralyze us when it comes to decision-making, cause us to overthink, and make us anxious. Sometimes, you have to tune out all the other voices, including the media and social media, and tune into the voice of God. You can do this by praying, reading your Bible, and listening to worship music. God will guide you.

I hope you found this helpful. I also hope that these things will help you hear God's voice more clearly and discern what he’s telling you to do the next time you have to make a decision and are not quite sure what to do.

Verses For Reflection

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”- Hebrews 4:12

“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your ancestors, you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.” - Malachi 3:6-7

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."- James 4:8
