Things I've Done To Improve My Morning Routine

It is often believed that you are either a morning person or you are not. I like to think that anyone can become a bit more of a morning person with a little practice and by implementing some simple habits. Today I wanted to share some ways I have been able improve and to enjoy my mornings more. These things also make the mornings run a little more smoothly. 

1. Wake up a little earlier.

The first thing that I do to make my mornings better is wake up a little bit earlier and giving myself more time to get ready. I like to take my time in the mornings, I like to have my coffee, read my devo and basically just lolligag. I hate to rush! Setting my alarm so that I am up earlier gives me time to go slow in the mornings and still make it to work on time. This one step relieves SO MUCH STRESS in the mornings and makes them so much more peaceful. 

Try it! Start by setting your alarm to wake up just 15 minutes earlier to begin with. Over time you may increase that to 20 or even 30 minutes earlier depending on what time you get in bed. I believe just a little extra time makes a big difference.

2. Prepare the night before.

Another thing I like to do to improve my mornings is to start getting things together the night before. I like to have an idea of what I'm going to wear and know where it is the night before so I am not scavenging through the closet and drawers in the morning. If I am going to my workout class I will set out my clothes, shoes, water, towel and such.

We will also have the kids get their stuff ready for school the night before so they aren't rushing to do it in the morning either. Doing this the night before cuts off so much time in the morning that you spend getting ready. It only takes a few minutes in the evening to do this as well. Some people are super ambitious and get all of their stuff together for the week on Sundays...I'm not there yet. 

3. Start the day with something you enjoy. 

As I mentioned in my first point, I like to drink my coffee and do my devo at home in the mornings. I like to savor this quiet time because it puts me in a good mood for the day. I suggest finding something that you enjoy doing in the mornings as well and do that first thing. This could be coffee and devo like me, a workout class, a motivational video or podcast. Anything that will put you in a positive peaceful mindset will work.

Once you find that thing you enjoy make it a daily habit almost like a ritual to start your day with. I would also say that you should protect this time as "me" time. We all need a little time to ourselves before jumping head in to life. Personally having this alone time helps me to deal with people better.
